A book that carries you.
Marianne Mayer from our board reads a lot. Here she recommends what did her good on the subject of farewell.

Mariana Leky, “What You Can See from Here”
DuMont Buchverlag Köln 2018, 17. Auflage
“Of the absolute duty to be present in one’s own life”, this is how the blurb sums up the concern of this wonderful novel. Mariana Leky tells the story of Selma, who three times in her life dreams of an okapi, after which someone in the village dies each time. The story is told through her granddaughter Luise, who grows up with her grandmother and loves her more than anything.
The subject of death is taken up in a very special way in this book. Very sensitive, at times amusing, in places tragic. The reader is confronted again and again with thoughts of death and dying, and yet it never becomes too much. Mariana Leky keeps the tension and stays light, even with heavy material.
For everyone who, besides entertainment, is looking for an invitation to engage with the big questions. Highly recommended.
